AREMA COMPLETES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BELL-LLOC D’URGELL WWTP

AREMA has completed the construction works for the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) project in the industrial sector of “Vinyes del Mig” in the municipality of Bell-lloc d’Urgell.

The new WWTP serves the businesses in the industrial park, which until now relied on a temporary treatment plant from 2015 that was nearing its capacity limit. The construction of the new plant was carried out while keeping the existing treatment facility operational, ensuring continuous service until the new WWTP was fully commissioned.

The works involved the construction of a new treatment plant with a processing capacity of up to 342 m³/day, featuring a dedicated treatment line for wastewater and another for sludge generated during the process.

The water treatment line includes preliminary screening, inlet pumping, and an aerated biological reactor with subsequent settling to clarify the treated water. The biological reactor is divided into four equal compartments, allowing for phased operation based on the industrial park’s demand.

The sludge treatment line consists of sludge extraction from the settling tanks, accumulation in a thickener, and subsequent dewatering using a centrifugal decanter.

Additionally, two buildings have been constructed: one for operations, housing a control room, restrooms, a machine room, and electrical panels; and another dedicated to sludge treatment equipment. The project also included the decommissioning of the existing treatment plant and the complete urbanization of the site.
